CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY

In a year that could easily be written off for the disruption and devastation it caused, one thing cannot be denied - 2020 represented a year of reckoning for Black Americans.

This February, Black History Month returns to shine a light on stories too often overlooked and voices whose microphones went unplugged far too long. Again, we are given an opportunity to grow together as a nation and validate the Black experience in America by listening, learning and sharing their stories.

This is a historic February, as it is the first Black History Month we will celebrate with a Black woman in the nation's second highest office. Kamala Harris is a symbol of the first steps our nation is taking to recognize the power of Black women in America, but she will certainly not be the last.

Over the next 28 days, the Global Women’s Caucus will highlight the History of Black Americans, the painful struggle that endures and the bright, more equitable future we all look forward to.

We welcome you to interact with your Global Women’s Caucus community this month by joining us on our Facebook page, or one of many online events hosted by the Global Black Caucus for discussion and opportunities to learn and grow together, as we foster this sisterhood.

At the GWC, we choose to welcome 2021 with open arms and open minds. Rather than look back on the last four years with outrage, we will dust ourselves off and move forward. We will follow the example set by another Black American icon who said it best: “when they go low, we go high.
